Sunday, 07 August, 2011 22:00 MAT a few weekends ago, i went to a fancy dress birthday party. it was with some of the mathematics learning centre staff at uni. it was in mackay, so we got to get away from rockhampton for a day. road trip !! i didn't invite brett, so he stayed home. the theme was heroes and villains. it's really difficult to find an asian hero that isn't a cartoon character. so i picked chun li, a street fighter character. my inspiration for this was the photo of this cute little chun li. so, i got as dressed up as i could. i had to buy fabric and sew the belt. some of the fabric was cut into circles and edged with gold glitter fabric paint for the hair pieces. i had to buy ribbon and put the gold glitter on the edges. i bought the spiked wrist cuffs. they were metal and could have seriously hurt someone if necessary. i couldn't find white boots, so i ended up having to hire them from a costume shop. i know my father is probably very embarrassed looking at my karate posture in the photos. it's probably all wrong. although, chun li does kung fu, not karate... but it's probably terrible form, either way. the party was a great time and i enjoyed the visit to mackay, however short it was. thanks nadine (aeon flux), for inviting us. thanks antony (zorro), for driving. thanks sherie (vampire), for keeping us company in the car ride. thanks roland (terminator), for showing up. phooey on clinton for not going. till next time... mood: creative tags: daily life, uni

Sunday, 10 July, 2011 16:35 MAT this is the task, as outlined in the course profile. MATH11160 Technology Mathematics Term 2 2011 Workbook Task 1 Due Wednesday of Week 3 (20 July, 2011)Step 1: Complete the Entry-Level Diagnostic Test from the Course Website until you get your best score. Remember that you can take it as many times as you want and it is not timed. Show all workings for the questions in the pages of your Workbook. Step 2: Respond to the following questions in the pages of your Workbook for each attempt: (a) What was the score? (b) In paragraph 1, evaluate your performance on the attempt. Note which questions/topics you did well or better on, which you need revision, and which you just didn’t know how to do at all. In paragraph 2, justify whether or not you are prepared to be successful in MATH11160 Technology Mathematics and your plan of study throughout the term or your plan to revise and attempt the Entry-Level Diagnostic Test again or your deliberations toward a decision to consult your program advisor about other options which may include attempting a different subject and/or enrolling in the Transition Mathematics 1 bridging/preparation mathematics subject through the Mathematics Learning Centre. Step 3: Do some revision, check with the available solutions file, and attempt the Entry-Level Diagnostic Test again (go to Step 1) or proceed to Step 4. Step 4: Submit the answers to Step 2 for your best attempt via email to the Course Coordinator. DO NOT submit the workings and answers for the questions of the Entry-Level Diagnostic Test. Use the following format for the email: Subject Line: Workbook Task 1 Submission from *insert student name here*Body: **either type it out or attach a scan of what is written in your Workbook** (a) *type answer to question a here* (b) *type answer to question b here*Signature: *insert student name* *insert student number* Since this Workbook Task is submitted by email, no Assignment Coversheet is necessary. Important Note: Please understand that the submitted numerical score of this Entry-Level Diagnostic Test will not be used in the calculations for the final grade of this subject. Regardless of the score, this Workbook Task is a pass/fail component of the Workbook and graded as either task completed or task not completed. now, the workbook is described in detail in other parts of the course profile. the entry level diagnostic test is easily located on the course website in moodle. they can get their score after they submit the test, they will be told that in the instructions on the test when they take it. i have tried and tried to write this task so that there should be no questions or confusion on what to do to complete the task, what to submit, and how to submit. i write exactly what i mean and what i expect from the student. still, i get these emails: Hi Melanie,
I was just wondering, in the submission details of workbook one it says not to include my answers and workings for the Entry Level Diagnostic Test. Is this correct? and also what else should I include in this submission apart from the paragraph about my results in the test??
Thanks so much WHY ?mood: frustrated tags: lecturing, uni
